Coaching Programme

The club is home to Courtside Sports Tennis Academy (CSTA) run by our Head Coach, David Gaterell – LTA Senior Performance Coach.

 
Year-round adult and junior group, team and individual coaching are provided, as well junior tennis camps in the school holidays.
 
The program is designed to accommodate all levels of player, from beginner through to advanced/team level/competition player.

We believe that playing sets, match practice and competitive opportunities are key to helping a player develop their game. On Friday evenings 5.30 to 7.00pm in term time, we run FREE invitation match practice  session for various ages. Different weeks, different ages.  An evolving schedule of events can be found on the Club noticeboard or please email Dave on dave@cs-ta.com for the latest calendar.
 
Non-members are welcome for lessons at Steep, however a guest fee will be added to the lesson price. The guest fees are £3 Adult/£2 Junior/£1 Junior under 8.

Biography

Dave has over 34 years experience as a player and over 20 years as a qualified coach.

As a player, he was an internationally ranked junior, playing and studying at two American colleges and currently competes on the ITF Seniors Tour. He is a National Grass and Clay Court Champion in the over 35’s age group, plays for Hampshire Over 35’s, and has captained the U/11, 12/U and 14/U Boys, Men’s and Men’s over 35’s Hampshire Teams. He has been ranked as highly as 20 in the world in over 35’s age group.

Dave has coached in clubs and academies in the UK and abroad. He brings a holistic approach to coaching, helping you develop all aspects of your game; your mentality, your technique, your strategic/tactical mind, your physicality and your approach to your goals.

Dave enjoys working with all ages and abilities, and has helped players from mini tennis, through to international juniors, adult beginners through to team players and university teams.

Dave believes tennis is a great way to learn important life skills and to help build character – it’s not just about how to hit a fuzzy yellow ball!

Outside of coaching and competing, Dave enjoys weight training, reading, travelling and spending time at the beach near his home with his wife and two daughters

Stringing

Dave is a stringer with nearly 30 years experience – stringing firstly for himself whilst a competing junior and adult, then for his fellow players, then for every club he has coached at.

 
Rackets are normally returned after 2-3 days
Any string currently on the market can be ordered if not in stock.
